Recently, there has been a significant progress within the Singaporean startup scene. Last year, 30 percent of the top startup ecosystems came from the region, in contrast to 20 percent in 2012. Owing to the government’s concerted policies, Singapore, described as the Asian Silicon Valley, has risen as the leading regional startup hub of Asia, with the startup ecosystem having a $21 billion value, exceeding the global average of $10.5 billion. The country was rated by Startup Genome’s The Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2020 (GSER 2020) as #17 of the world’s top ecosystems. The primary drivers for Singapore’s success were its stable currency rate, pro-business policies, and an efficient tax regime. Over the years, the country’s government has introduced new incentive schemes to help young startups grow and expand businesses. One such program is Enterprise Singapore’s Startup SG, which provides early-stage startups with access to mentorship, equity financing, cash grants, and business loans. Although the country has many startups flourishing from numerous sub-sectors, Digital Health and Fintech are its strength. Traditionally, Singapore has a long history as one of the most important financial hubs of Asia. In the current scenario, with the resources, knowledge, and networks needed to succeed as a top startup ecosystem—Singapore will attract numerous tech talent and realize its vision of becoming a smart city in the near future.
